Here's a nice little buried news item to warm the soul.
Assemblyman denies influencing townhouse deal
Posted by Colonel Bragg at October 7, 2005 06:22 PMWow, this is the last place I expected to be learning something new about Joe Cryan or Carol Segal, two muckety mucks in my home town of Union that I happen to know quite well.
I can add some color here. First of all, the notion that the Township Committee would do this without Joe Cryan knowing about it is absolutely laughable. The members of the Township Committee are incapable of taking a shit without Joe Cryan's approval.
The whole affair is, unfortunately, quite typical, although I must report that Carol Segal is not quite the innocent aggrieved party this article would make him out to be. His business is purchasing tax liens. It's how he's come to acquire pretty much all the property he owns (although I must admit that I can't vouch for whether the railroad property was purchased this was, I would suspect it was.) So, while eminent domain should not be used against anyone -- certainly not those who still have a viable use for their property -- it's hard to feel too much pity for a guy who has handsomely profitted from similar exercises of government seizure by taking advantage of those who were late in offering tribute to their local overlords.
